What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday - Collage Fodder

Hello, hello. Long time no blog.

It's been such a long time since I played along with WOYWW - hope you don't mind me slinking in here last minute today.

On my workdesk today is a pile of gelli printed papers. I moved in the Summer and somehow I have lost my box of collage papers! All the collage material built up over my arty crafty life - gone. Can't believe it - can't find it anywhere. Can't even blame the removal company as we did the move ourselves in our scrappy Fiesta, chugging back and forth with all our gear. I'm most miffed at the small things - the bits of gothic and dark themed book pages friends had sent me over the years - tiny scraps of braille paper I had been hoarding Scrooge-like for that perfect project.

So that's what this is. Decided to stop huffing and puffing and get messy. Got the gelli plate out with Phe and spent an enjoyable afternoon starting off a new collage box.

I particularly love this one - it makes me think of nature and natural burials and folk tales which I am still really interested in. I wish I'd made it but this one was by Phe. She was so chuffed with it and says I can keep it - this one isn't collage fodder that's for sure. It's weird because over the last few days I've literally been making a Pinterest board called Underground (You can look here if interested) which is all burrows and things - I hadn't told her or anyone. It's like that girl really knows me!

All this has taught me one thing! I wont be hoarding for years anymore!

I'm off to link up with Julia - thank you for stopping by today :)

  2. Carmen! It’s so great to see you on the desks today, I always enjoy seeing your interesting ideas and I LOVE Phe’s work too. I adore all things weirdy woo and spiritual and this really appeals. I’m so glad you’ve settled, Saltburn is a great place, I know it well.

  6. What a lot of lush and wonderful gel prints! Love them. You should def. check out PM Artist Studio and their FB group Makers of Mixed Media Art. Lots of fun, and quite unlike the majority of places they really and truly do encourage people to share, even if they don';t use their products. Lots of fun :) I am totally NOT a FB fan but this place is well-run and one place I do go to. Just FYI.
Catching up on the last few…Happy WOYWW!

  8. Welcome back to the WOYWW gang. Lovely to see your work again and sorry to hear you lost a lot in your move. A clean start has turned up trumps for you and what lovely prints you have now to use in whatever way you want. Agree on Phe's work and can see where you are coming from. I love all things to do with nature, and will pop over to see your link later - now must go and help with the tree decoration.
Sorry I got a bit glum yesterday, todays blog story I wrote this morning has cheered me up no end and I am trying to put all bad things in a box and close the lid. Just need to hear from little sis about BIL and all will be fine.

  9. Oh dear, a black hole! I have encountered a few of those in my lifetime. Most recently some Tim Holtz daubers that I JUST bought...missing. I have a black hole in my art room. But a whole box missing - that's a big hole! We lost a box of books on our move from California to Canada, which had a very precious book in it (for us), and it just fell into a black hole somewhere along the way. Like yours - a whole box!! How does that happen?? Anyway, I'm sure you will fill up another box soon, and even better and more exciting fodder will fill it up! Have a great week, Lindart #16

  10. It's always good to see old friends. I bet when you've done making the new papers the old ones will turn up as if by magic. This regularly happens to me especially at this time of the year with all that Christmas stuff covering up the desk. Have a great belated woyww, Angela x10x

  11. How fab to see you here Carmen, and to know you’re in and settled. I’m sorry about the lost box, but as you say, a valuable lesson in the ‘use it or lose it’ vibe, however hateful. Just feels like a right old waste doesn’t it. Lovely that Phoebe’s getting her art on too, how alike your work is comes as no surprise to me!

  12. All the will in the world to visit on Wednesday and bombed out yet again, so sorry....better late than never though - I say.

You say you are slowly discovering gouache, I even HAD to google that! Had no idea but opaque watercolours in my Bible would certainly cover the words too much methinks.
What a shame about your box of collage papers, bet they turn up in the most unexpected place just when you need them, meanwhile you'll have had fun making more. Love the pinterest board and the piece you were given.
