Rocking My World Friday...

Good evenink lovely people. Happy Friday. (Pretend it's Friday!)

Firstly this week I have to thank Sexy Susie Sue for sending me this book...

It's been on my wishlist since I saw all the hype on twitter when it was first released. Thank you Sue, you really shouldn't have but I am glad you did!

Secondly, thank you to everyone who has sent lovely emails about my Secret Santa swap! I am over the moon it's been taken on board so well. I thought it would just be a couple of us doing it - I never really thought anyone else would be interested. (Pssst. You still have till Saturday to sign up ! *wink, wink*)
Partly because of that and partly because Virginia, my Dad and my sister made me feel so guilty with all their C word talk, I've now started my shopping. Ooh, also to Sian for her blog post which inspired a present purchase this week too. That's getting me all Christmassy and am trying to get a gift a week at least. Hopefully then it wont be such a huge shock to the moths that reside in my purse nearer the time! Even contemplating digging out the old Nat & Dean CD! Blimey - yeah, they've dragged me over to the dark side!

Next, all these places that were previously just to expensive to visit... have now started making their tickets last a whole year. That kind of justifies the expense a little bit. We bought a Port Lympne one at Easter (which we've been making damn sure we got our money's worth from) and recently got a Leeds Castle one too. Next year we will swap and do a couple of different ones so we get to see more places. I love that because you can go back as many times as you want in a year, you don't feel so rushed to get around everything and the days just feel so much more leisurely and relaxed - less regimented frantic marching around everything! Plus, you have a day out ready paid for when the kids are driving you NUTSO!

Today was a Leeds Castle visit. The difference from when we went just a couple of weeks ago was amazing. All autumnal and full of crunchy leaves.

We did the inside of the castle today rather than just the grounds - which hold a couple of parks the girls love. Top moment of the day. Giving the royal wave as we were ushered in the front door, thanks to Dad and his walking stick. This lot still had to queue round the back! Bwahahaha!

Next Rocking moment comes from one room. I could have spent ages in here - my favourite room in the castle.
When can I move in? Or at least replicate it in my home? (Craig. He say no. *Sad face*)

In the gift shop Devvie and I spotted a medieval style scrapbook. Basically a wad of (what looked like) handmade paper bound in a leather wrap, tied up with a leather thong. It was gorgeous. But it was £44!! We've decided to try and get some leather and make one of our own - aha! Inspiration strikes!

There seems to have been a shift in my mood this week. There was a little bit of letting a few circumstances drag my mood down last week and as a result I nearly ditched everything. Nearly quit all my circle journals, nearly quit the design team, very nearly shut down and deleted my blog. It was only Craig (again) making me physically wait a few days, rant and rail a bit of an afternoon when the girls were at school. Listened patiently (all be it with that look on his face), then did what he always does... annoyingly... and talked some sense into me. I'm grateful for him. Circumstances are still there but I'm dealing with them better this week.

Now, if you fancy a look back at your week to...
Be sure to stop by Virginia's and link up so we can all find you :)

Lastly, a quick questionnaire that Amy has asked everyone to fill in - and seeing as I won a piece of her fabulous art, how could I not?

1. What is your name and stuff? and any other good information. like bank account details.
My name is Carmen. My middle name is Miranda. Which makes me Carmen Miranda. Aiyaiyaiyai do like you all very much. If you got that reference, then I love you even more and yes, my Mum and Dad thought they were cool and hilarious. They just couldn't think of a name for me so my Mum said Carmen Miranda as a joke and my Dad liked it. It's better than Elvis which is what they called me when I was a bump.

2. what is super hot about you? <--- don't you Dare skip this one. answer it.
Um...
I like to think my sarcasm and sense of humour but I may be alone in that.

3. don't lie or cheat: what is under your couch right now?
Absolutely nothing. I know! But only because we so recently moved and I am actually more or less keeping on top of things. Give me a few months and there will be a whole heap of stuff under there.

4. when was the last time you shaved your legs?
Thursday?? It's cold!

5. what did you have for breakfast?
Hot toast with marmite and a couple of cups of tea. I think I also had a kiwi afterwards.

6. if you could choose a new name, what would you name yourself?
I wouldn't change my name.

7. have you ever had plastic surgery?
No - but if I did it would be on my upper arms or my double chin. The rest - I'm pretty OK with.

8. are you afraid of the dark?
Yes.
I often wonder how I will get away with having the landing light on still when the kids all leave home!

9. are you a hermit?
According to Amy and her check of wikipedia:
In modern colloquial usage, the term "hermit" is sometimes used for anyone living a life apart from the rest of society, or who simply does not participate in social events as much as is common, regardless of their motivation in doing so."

It's funny because I remember in English class at school, we had to write an essay, as you do, on what you wanted to be when you grew up. I wrote two things. One was to drive a sixteen wheeler truck and at the while owning a cattery and a coffee shop/bookstore on the side. The other was to be the crazy cat lady who lived her days in a book lined cave. I think I actually used the word 'hermit'.

That definition of Amy's is pretty spot on. I don't tend to socialise with people... it's just a shame that some people take that personally. It's not personal... most of the time. Some people just keep themselves to themselves.

10. why do you blog?
Because - to completely contradict what I just said - I love to chat, I love to write. I love sharing what I'm up to, new things I've discovered, great books I've read. I love to talk to friends I've made through this blog.

Hey - I can be a friendly hermit can't I?
The End.
Thanks for stopping by :)

  1. I'd want to re-visit that castle over and over, too! It's beautiful....we just don't have anything that really compares here in the States.

I'm not ready for Christmas....I'm enjoying my Halloween just too darn much!
Looking forward to the swap, though....

Love questionaires! You sexy, sarcastic, yet sweet hermit you ;D

  2. Hi, friendly hermit..yes it's me, Sexy Susie Sue...I'm loving my new name. :)
    What a fabulous post!
Totally in love with your favourite room in the castle - shame on Craig saying no (David would, sadly, agree with him) but yay to him stopping you closing your blog etc etc..
Great idea with the yearly tickets (and fun photos of the girls).
I too have crossed to the dark side - I now have cards made as well as earrings bought.
    Enjoy your Sunday.
    Hugs xx

  4. I think you look very 'at home' in that book lined castle room. You could be Lady Whatsit from Downton Abbey. I'm sure IKEA do shelves just like that (except not a million years old), maybe if you promise Craig all sorts of things (I said promise, not actually do them!) you could have one book lined wall......? Work on him, baby!

Love the pics of the galloping monsters!

I'm really sorry to hear things have been grotty for you and we had such a close shave when you were thinking of closing down your blog etc. You would be terribly missed, so DON'T DO IT!

BRILLIANT quote (happiness/crappiness one), definitely one to remember!

Now as for your self-interview. Your name is WONDERFUL, I do hope you live up to it by going to the supermarket with a bowl of fruit on your head. No? Friendly hermits don't do that kinda thing, you say? Oh, ok then.

You have a great sense of humour, I so often sit snorting while I read your posts - I can recall many previous posts you've written (eg there was one when you said you had a French artists beret on your head - I can't remember what it was about, but the picture of yourself you described had me giggling to myself for days!). So yes, your sense of humour is smokin'!

Got to go now (trolley dash round Morrisons, deep joy).

    Have a great weekend,

    xxx

  5. Great post today Carmen - Carmen Miranda, who knew?! Don't give up please, I love reading your blog. So glad you have Craig to keep you goig - I've said this before, he's a keeper!
LOVE that library at the castle, I'm with you (doing my own impression. One day I will blog all the bloody books all over the place. My brother tells me I have to get rid of some of my "junk" to make room for some of Mum's stuff we have to clear from her house when we sell it (to pay the are home fees) .... it's NOT junk!! )
    Have a good week. Please.

  9. The words don't you dare - come to mind - you'd have a tribe of people banging down your door demanding what the BT internet man had done to the cable if you disappeared!! Yes life can get grotty and crappy sometimes but that's what "Rocking Your World" posts are about, in amongst the crap of the week there is always a sliver of silver to make things OK, plus when you have a great week you get to balance the crappy ones out!

Leeds Castle looks awesome, we too spent considerable time in the Library at Chatsworth recently because - well what were they reading, I saw some supersized books that made me do the whole - oooohhhhh aaaahhhhh - I could alter that statement! LMAO the guy looking after the room obviously thought I was barmy!

Been whoop whoop for your Craig listening letting you rant and then making you see reason - definitely a keeper that one!!!!

The kids enjoying themselves in the leaves is awesome - love that completely!

And your name is utterly utterly gorgeous I love it - we do now require a picture of you with a bowl of fruit on your head!

Right off for breakfast, got a dreadful chest infection at the moment so I feel lousy and look awful!!!!

    Hugs

  10. No no no no no no no no NOOO! Foot stomp! Who messed with you girl? This is what you do- go to facebook- click Michelle Hernandez

    GRRRRRRR! woo wooo wooo!
Hurl myself (digitally of course) and CHOMP whomever's ass it was.
I will do this because I want you to stick around because you. are awsome.
As for being a hermit- it's the solution for many a creative mind- people's hi-jinx can get too much and punching them in the face is so passe. Yes I blog for the same reason- to increase my circle- because intresting peeps are everywhere- just not always next door.
Keep it real Momma! Hugs to you- and thank you- your visit totally made my day today.
Ahhh- to get photos of my kid bounding through the Leed's Casle grounds- yep- now on my list of shiz to do before in 40 (I'm 37). :)
I'm so sorry I haven't been a regular visitor- your insights- your friends- you've got such a cool place here! And yes- that would be my fave room too- the description of the scrapbook nearly made me buy the plane ticket right now.
And wait- did you just say your parents and sister read your blog? WOMAN!!!! Do you know how awesome that is? DON'T STOP!

  11. Oh Carmen, I am so glad Craig talked you out of stopping your blog. Do you know how much you inspire people with your wonderful creativity and your amazing sense of humour???You can make me giggle for hours with some of the sarky, quirky, funny things you post! When I sign into blogger your blog is always the first one I visit and it never disapoints. When I read your posts I see so many similarities between us and would like to think that if we knew each other in real life, we would be great friends! Keep your spirits up, try not to let people or situations drag you down, as long as you and yours are ok you will be fine.((((((big hugs)))).
Your photos of the castle are great, love the one with the kids running through the leaves. Amazing name-how cool, and also quite funny! x

  12. Love your answers to Amy's interview :D
I nearly kicked the blog last year, chucked a real mardy with my fellow dt at the time, but so glad I didn't.....I wouldn't have met Amy or Virginia if I had...too horrible a future to contemplate!!!
As for Totem Animals, I'm sure someone somewhere has formulated this and made it into a quiz, but I believe your totem finds you. I have always been wolf(and Humble Bee, you can have more than 1 as with personality).
Write a list of your best features(personality wise)and try and match them to animal behaviour...this is getting really long so I might do it as a blog post instead :D XXX
